Meet Your Dietitian
At Northwestern University you have free access to a Registered Dietitian for nutrition consultations. The dietitian provides individual consultations to students for issues such as, but not limited to, the following:
- Health Eating
- Weight Management
- Nutrition and Fitness
- Vegetarian and Vegan Nutrition
- Eating Disorders and Disordered Eating

Food Allergies and Intolerances
If you have a food allergy or intolerance, it is important to learn about the options available to you while dining on campus. Our staff can provide several options to accommodate your food allergy and food intolerance needs. We recommend arranging an appointment with our campus dietitian at 847-491-DIET(3438) to help guide you through the campus dining experience.
Food Preferences and Religious Dining Needs
We offer vegetarian and vegan options for every meal. A Kosher kitchen is located at Allison Dining Hall and Kosher options are available in retail locations. Hallal items are available upon request at Foster-Walker Dining Hall. We recommend calling in advance to discuss your special situations with our dietitian at 847-491-DIET(3438).
Justin Heaton, RD, LDN, is the Campus Dietitian for Northwestern University. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Culinary Nutrition from Johnson & Wales University, Providence, RI, and completed his supervised practice with Sodexo Health Care Services in the Philadelphia Metropolitan area. He also holds a Certificate of Training in Adult Weight Management from the Commission of Dietetic Registration. He gained experience in the field of nutrition and dietetics by working as a Registered Dietitian in a variety of health care settings. A seasoned marathon runner, he has volunteered for organizations that use running as a catalyst to encourage young people to keep active. He enjoys empowering others to learn how to make healthy choices that lead to improved well-being. His passion lies in a balanced approach to wellness, healthy eating, and fitness.
